ANALYSIS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOOLAR SPORTS' (9-18 YEARS) PROMOTION THE SPORT PROGRAM IN THE REGION OF MURCIA

 

ABSTRACT

 

The promotion of sport, healthy habits and physical exercise have become more important in the recent years, due to the increase of the youth obesity and the sedentary of the school children. This research analyzes the scholar participation preferences of the scholar athletes between 9 and 18 years old (primary and high school level), in the sport promotion championship in Region de Murcia, during the 2010-2011 season (n= 60.440 participations over 19 sports specialities). Therefore, it analyzes the sport based on the dynamic and static component of the sport practice. It is found significant participation differences regarding the gender in 5 sport specialties, being Table tennis and Chess which have major differences in favour of male’s participation. In addition, there are remarkable differences regarding in the category in 6 out of the 19 sports, The "Cross-Country" is the one which shows the biggest differences between categories. The Alevin category has the biggest participation in most of the sports. Regarding the sports classification, it is observed that the supply is preferably sports where high dynamic component predominates. This proposal has been oriented on encourage the prevention of future cardiovascular problems.
