UNINTENTIONAL FALLS IN ITALIAN SOCCER: CASE STUDY FOR AN ANALYSIS OF THE RELEVANCE OF PROACTIVE INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAMS

ABSTRACT

The objective of this study is to determine the level of application of the safe and protected ways of falling before an unexpected and unintentional fall in a team of Alevin players in Messina, Italy. A quasi-experimental research design is applied to an incidental sample of 15 players (age M = 10 ± 0.6) on their spontaneous response to an unintentional fall backwards. The results show that 3/4 of the sample does not present any protection mechanism in the event of a fall. It is concluded that in the team of Alevin players in Messina, Italy, there is no specific training on protected and safe ways of falling backwards.
